Halo 2/Shadowrun not Vista exclusive – going to XP?

fallingleafIn a move that’s going to piss Microsoft off to no end — Falling Leaf Systems announced today that they plan to offer software that’ll make Halo 2 and Shadowrun compatible with Windows XP.

The two games are currently available for preorder on Falling Leaf’s website and orders will be fulfilled through Amazon.com. They’re also doing a deal where if you preorder one/both of the games, you’ll receive a free copy of the compatibility software "within a few months."

In probably one of the biggest and most publicized comments aimed against Microsoft, Brian Tomason, CEO of Falling Leaf Systems stated:

"Microsoft has, in typical Microsoft fashion, decided to launch their forced migration onslaught in full force with the release of two games that will only run on Windows Vista. First they claim that it was impossible to implement DirectX 10 compatibility atop Windows XP, and now they also want us to believe that they couldn’t successfully launch two DirectX 9 based titles on XP either. We plan to expose both theories as patently false."

Even though this project is certainly specific to the PC modding community, I can already hear lawyers being phoned up to put on their gunslinging outfits.
