During Microsoft’s X06, publisher RedOctane announced that Guitar Hero II will be heading to the Xbox 360 sometime early next year. Along with showcasing the game at the event, RedOctane also showed off the X-Plorer, the custom-built guitar controller specifically for the 360. The game will also utilize the Xbox Live Marketplace via downloadable music content.
Dusty Welch, publish head for RedOctane praised Xbox Live and the 360’s hard drive, "With its large integrated hard drive, Xbox 360 provides an incredible platform for facilitating downloadable content. We believe there is no better title to feature microtransactions than a music game like Guitar Hero II, where the content is the basis of your experience. The relationship with the Xbox Live Marketplace creates endless possibilities for exclusive content."
"The tour will continue the rockin’ gameplay Guitar Hero fans have come to enjoy, and will now include expanded Xbox 360 capabilities," said RedOctane president Kai Huang. "With Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 rock rhythm, lead, or bass guitar tracks with downloadable content and the new X-Plorer controller, designed specifically for the Xbox 360."
Last Friday, MTV announced plans to acquire the developer of the Guitar Hero franchise, Harmonix Music Systems (GamerNode’s story). In May, Activision announced plans to acquire RedOctane. Guitar Hero II is also hitting the PS2 on November 7.
