A patch that was released over the weekend for the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II has received numerous reports that the fix has bricked some 360 consoles after installation.
The patch was intended to solve input problems with the X-plorer guitar controller’s whammy bar. But when users implemented the fix, xbox.com forum users complained of system freezes and the most serious problem you can have on a 360 — the dreaded "ring of death." This status system display happens when the Xbox 360 is totally inoperable. The only solution is to send the damaged unit to Microsoft for repairs.
The only word from RedOctane has been in a short response to Eurogamer about the situation. "We’re aware of the problem and we’re looking into it."
