Activision has confirmed that its extremely successful Guitar Hero franchise will be coming to multiple formats in 2007. At present, Guitar Hero is only available for the PlayStation 2.CEO and chairman of Activision Robert Kotick revealed the news today at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia XV Conference. Kotick stated that Guitar Hero, "was a great IP that was really in need of global distribution and the operating efficiencies that we could bring to what was a relatively small company. The long-term opportunities here include all sorts of product extensions–music downloads that are very high-margin opportunities–and we’ll start with the launch of Guitar Hero 2 for the PlayStation 2 this fall. And you can expect next calendar year launches of Guitar Hero on every significant new format." Kotick’s revelation that there would be downloadable content available for Guitar Hero is good news for the Big Three, as it could potentially create massive traffic for Xbox Live, Sony’s PNP, and the Wii’s Virtual Console. Guitar Hero 2 for the PlayStation 2 is set for release in November. The game could be available for the Xbox 360 as early as the first part of 2007.
