Guillemot predicts 50% market growth in 4 years

UbisoftAt the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has been pondering the future of the gaming industry. He predicts that over the next four years, catalyzed by the expansion into the casual market, the industry will see a market growth of 50 percent.

Speaking with Reuters, Guillemot had this to say:

"There are so many new customers to the business; this is going to grow the market tremendously. I expect the market to grow by 50 percent in the next four years. It’s a very exciting time for all the developers and publishers."

He went on to explain that as opposed to the 6.8-27.1 million dollar per-game expense of traditional videogames, casual games cost only around $1.4-5.4 million apiece to develop.

Fun fact: Twenty percent of Ubisoft’s 2007 revenue is predicted to come from casual games.
