In an interview with CVG, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World hinted at plans to explore the console market. Primarily a PC developer, I’m sure GSC couldn’t resist the temptation to join the ranks of console development.
Anton Bolshakov, GSC project manager, said, "PC game development is very traditional for ex-USSR and over 90 percent of gamers here play on PCs. However, we are pretty aware of the tendencies in the markets internationally and have been considering console development for a while."
While it’s still rumored, I wouldn’t be surprised if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. eventually went to consoles, but hopefully it doesn’t take over 5 years to do so. In the meantime, GSC is working on the first expansion pack to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titled S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.
Clear Sky will be a standalone game and will take place a year before the events of the original game. Among other things, the prequel will include enhanced engine capabilities, new areas, enhanced AI and leadership over factions.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is scheduled for release in early 2008 for PC.
