Grand Austria Hotel is a highly thematic eurogame for 2-4 players from Mayfair Games, designed by Simone Luciani and Virginio Gigli.
The game is a wonderful collection of game mechanisms that integrate surprisingly well with one another to create a smooth flow of play, though the experience centers around the primary mechanic of action selection via dice drafting. Players take actions in staggered turn order to attract guests, serve them food and drink, prepare hotel rooms, fill in the floors of their hotel, make money, and hire employees to make the whole operation run more efficiently.
It’s a fantastic game, worth a try for anyone into euros, and even those who aren’t. The game is deep and thinky, but the healthy slathering of an unusual and accessible theme make it more widely appealing than many of its contemporaries.
Highly recommended.
