If there is one thing many N64 owners can remember from their childhood, it’s flipping the switch of their black box with Rare’s Goldeneye 007 inserted firmly into the cartridge slot and spending a significant period of time taking on their friends in one of the best multiplayer experiences of that generation.
Those who possess an undying adoration for the 64-bit first person shooter have been clamoring for a re-release of the classic through digital distribution (namely through Xbox Live Arcade, considering Rare is under Microsoft’s wing). But so far, they have had no reason to believe that they’d be playing it on an Xbox 360 gamepad anytime soon.
However, Xbox-Evolved is reporting that a graphically updated, Xbox-Live enabled version of the game will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace prior to the release of Activision’s (the current holder of the 007 video game license) next Bond game.
While this may seem like a dream come true to many gamers who love to participate in a nostalgic experience, will the game provide the same level of joy they received from playing it all those years ago?
We’ll all have to wait and see.
