Game developer, FromSoftware, is looking to add a touch of realism to their upcoming title Tenchu Z by adding a "smell-o-meter" to the interface. This meter will tell you how smelly you are and this in turn, affects how enemies respond to you.
Back in the day, ninjas used scent to identify their enemies and those who might be able to detected them. By using this notion, the enemies in Tenchu Z will detect you more easily if you haven’t cleaned up in a while.
For example, if you cut a few people up and get the blood on your skin and clothes, it would be in your best interest to find a place to bathe or use a cleansing potion. Or you could simply continue about your business with the increased chance of detection.
This added "realism" could be well received or it could end up being just a novelty. However, there seems to be a positive response to this sort of thing. The concept of game characters getting fat within GTA: San Andreas was generally appreciated by the masses.
If you’re looking forward to trying out Tenchu Z, a demo is available on the Japanese Xbox Live Marketplace (a region workaround works).
