Remember Prey? That game that was delayed so often it ended up not quite meeting the expectations we made for it? (If that doesn’t help you remember that’s fine, because I’d guess at least a quarter of all big releases fall into that category.) If you never got a chance to try it (or didn’t want to waste the money on it) you’re in luck, because this weekend only, the game is available for the low price of $4.95 on Steam. In other words, you can buy the game for the price of a rental (which is what most people did to play Prey the first time around).
"Here’s a deal you can sink your teeth into: this weekend only, pick up the acclaimed first person shooter Prey for just $4.95. In Prey, players enter a living spaceship which enslaves alien races and devours humans for lunch. Prey turns the first person shooter genre upside down with awesome new gameplay features like wall-walking and gravity flipping, making for intense single-player and multi-player experiences. Prey is built on a heavily modded version of the Doom 3 engine and is developed by critically acclaimed developer Human Head Studios under the direction of 3D Realms," the Steam release reads.
So is it worth the price? Here’s what the long-gone Adam Aragon had to say about Prey in our review: "From a perspective outside the nitpicking, it’s a really fun game; it’s scary, fast, brutal, and very well executed. Despite its shortcomings, it’s still definitely worth playing. It’s not perfect, but it’s damn close at times."
