It’s not too often that Xbox 360 games offer 3D support, but developer Epic Games has revealed that Gears of War 3 will include the feature.
Executive Producer Rod Fergusson explained the reasoning behind adding stereoscopic 3D to the flagship franchise.
"It felt like something we wanted to have," he said. "It was a feature we didn’t want to be deficient in. When you look at Gears 1, it was what people used to demo HD at the time."
Fergusson also added that 3D is "still a niche feature," but the team at Epic Games felt like it might as well include it since they are familiar with the technology.
The Xbox 360 doesn’t handle 3D in the same way as Sony’s PlayStation 3. This results in a lower resolution, and Fergusson said that Gears of War 3 will be "a little bit jaggier in certain areas." He also made sure to note that the difference is "not huge" though.
Sony has shown its interest in 3D over the past few years. With Gears of War 3 utilizing that technology now, perhaps Microsoft will follow suit in the near future.
