During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, company President Satoru Iwata announced that downloadable content arriving later this year will transform New Super Mario Bros. U into a completely different adventure starring Luigi, titled New Super Luigi U.
This large-scale development project, arriving this year on the Nintendo eShop, will alter the 80+ stages in New Super Mario Bros. U, aiming to provide a “whole new level of gameplay challenge.” Players will be able to freely switch between original and Luigi levels as they progress through the expanded game, but no additional details have been divulged.
GamerNode has contacted Nintendo to inquire about potential gameplay differences between Mario and Luigi (a la Super Mario Bros. 2) but no further comment has been given as of yet.
