Square Enix dropped an absolute bombshell last night during Sony’s TGS press conference by announcing that their PlayStation 2 classic, Final Fantasy X, will be remade in HD.
The remake is coming courtesy of the game’s 10th anniversary and will be made available on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. No other details were given on the game, which some series fans still consider the last great installment in the franchise, as it is still in development.
There were also no indications given whatsoever as to whether or not this could lead to remakes of other Final Fantasy titles, including the long rumored and desired HD upgrade of Final Fantasy VII.
For those unfamiliar with the title, Final Fantasy X was originally released on December 18, 2001 to both critical and public acclaim, selling over 6.6 million copies worldwide. It follows the struggles of the summoner Yuna and her guardians, including the lost and out-of-place player character Tidus, as they try to defeat and free the world of the immortal monster Sin.
