At first glance, this 500GB hard drive doesn’t seem too different than any other hard drive on the market: 5400rpm spindle speed, an 8MB cache and a 3.0Gbps SATA interface. But imagine this particular hard drive to be the world’s smallest hard drive ever, courtesy from Samsung.
Coming in at a mere 2.5 inches and 9.5mm tall, this hard drive certainly nabs the world record, but Samsung is not stopping there. In addition, they introduced the industry’s fastest DVD burner.
According to Gizmodo, "The WriteMaster SH-S223 will offer high-speed DVD burning on low speed media; 16X and 8X media will be written to at 22X and 12X write speeds, respectively. The SH-S223 will be able to write at the following maximum speeds; 22X DVD±R recording, 12X DVD-RAM recording, 16X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 12X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording."
Pretty spiffy, right? It must feel pretty good to have these industry records, but I imagine by tomorrow or next week, they’ll be broken by someone else.
