Epic Games VP Speaks on Unreal Tournament Launch for PS3

The speculation over ,“Unreal Tournament 2007,” as a launch title for the PS3 took another turn today as Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, put in his comments about the rumors. In the January 2006 edition of PSM (Playstation Magazine), stories were circulating about UT 2007 being on the lineup of launch titles for the PS3. To further the confusion of launch date for the game, a person who identified himself as a producer of the title on an Atari community forum denied the reports of UT 2007 being a launch title. Rein gave the official word by saying to GameSpot, “Do you know when the PS3 launch is? Neither do we, but we know when UT2007 will be done: WHEN IT'S DONE!” Ok, Mark, we believe you! Rein also said, "The question of whether we're a launch title or not is unanswerable because we don't know if the PS3 will be out before we're done or not. … We won't ship the title on any platform before it's done, and it is too early to say when that will be." As to the original rumors about UT 2007 being released ahead of the PC version of the game, Rein said, "For now we soldier on with the plan to ship on PC as soon as we're done.” So what is the answer of UT 2007 being a launch title for the PS3? Two words: nobody knows.
