Electronic Arts made the announcement today that they are currently in the process of developing The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, an upcoming next-gen title due to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC sometime next year. Officials were reluctant to disclose any specific details, but sources say the game, in addition to being somewhat of a prequel, will feature an original storyline drawn from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels. Players will also experience the action through open-ended gameplay in a beautiful and fully manipulatable world a la Oblivion.
Our extremely talented and dedicated team is committed to creating an incredible new experience for fans of The Lord of the Rings and role playing gamers," said Steve Gray, executive producer, The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. "With its next generation gameplay and epic new storyline, we think The Lord of the Rings, The White Council will be a huge success."
Actors from Peter Jackson’s film adaptation, including Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, and Christopher Lee, are also being brought in to lend their voices during the production.
