Electronic Arts released their fourth quarter and fiscal year 2007 financial earnings today; net revenue for the fourth quarter was $613 million, which is down 4% from $641 million the same period last year. Contributing to the earnings were strong sales of Command & Conquer 3, Need for Speed: Carbon, Def Jam: Icon and The Sims 2: Seasons. Gross profit for this quarter was $378 million, which is down 5% from the same period last year; net loss for this quarter was $25 million.
For the fiscal year, net revenue was $3.09 billion, which is up 5% from $2.95 billion the same period last year. Contributing to the increase were strong sales of Madden NFL 07, Need for Speed: Carbon (sold over 8.5 million copies), Need for Speed: Most Wanted, FIFA 07, The Sims 2: Pets (sold over 5.6 million copies), The Sims 2 (sold over 3.9 million copies) and 2006 FIFA World Cup; unless noted, all 7 of these games sold over 3 million copies each. Titles from The Sims franchise sold over 22 million copies this year. Gross profit for the year was $1.88 billion, which is up 6% from the same period last year; net income for the year was $76 million.
EA will be launching at least 15 games by the end of the year, including Medal of Honor: Airborne, co-op action title Army of Two, Wii party game Boogie, Wii and DS The Sims port MySims, Battlefield: Bad Company, SKATE and another Need for Speed game. In addition, EA acquired 5 companies this year: Digital Illusions (Battlefield franchise), Mythic Entertainment (Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online), Headgate Studios (Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise), Phenomic, and SingShot.
