Electronic Arts has announced that it has finalized all of its actions in its acquisition of Digital Illusions CE, known popularly as DICE. The game development studio is responsible for the well-known Battlefield franchise, published by EA. The Swedish developer will continue to develop Battlefield content and new products for the PC and consoles with EA.
The former CEO of Dice, Patrick Soderlund will continue to head the new DICE-fueled EA studio under the new title of general manager. Soderlund said, “We,ve been working very closely with EA for the past five years and this is a very natural step for us as we move into the next generation of gaming.”
Paul Lee, president of EA Worldwide Studios said, “EA is thrilled to officially welcome this team of incredibly talented people and a globally recognized game franchise. The DICE studio has strong opportunity for growth as we build the Battlefield franchise and other new products. We,re confident that our creative approach and business leadership principles are well matched to share future success.”
DICE currently has Battlefield 2142 set for release next month and Battlefield: Bad Company under development, slated for a 2007 release.
