Rockstar Games is bringing a new title to the PS3 and Xbox 360 next year-Grand Theft Auto IV. The announcement was released today by Rockstar and said:
"Rockstar Games… is proud to announce Grand Theft Auto IV, the next-generation console debut of the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto IV will be simultaneously available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and is currently planned to be in stores in North America on October 16, 2007 and in Europe on October 19, 2007."
There was some minor controversy earlier as Xbox Microsoft chief Peter Moore rolled up his sleeve at a pre-E3 press event and revealed a tattoo of Grand Theft Auto IV and proclaimed that the title would be shipping for the Xbox 360 “on day one” of the game,s release. Some mistook this as a proclamation that GTA IV was going to be an exclusive game for the 360, which in fact, it is not.
The Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most talked-about game titles of our time, due to the violent, though vastly enjoyable, content and, lately, hidden X-rated scenes of its San Andreas edition. But in spite of the negative press the game has received, the titles still sell well and have generally received high marks for gameplay andproduction value. Whether the next installment will generate another wave of public outcry is entirely in the hands of Rockstar. But one thing is certain: any title in the Grand Theft Auto series will, from now on in, be carefully scrutinized by the public because of the infamous reputation of the game franchise.
