When the Xbox One ships in November it will come with a $499 price tag, Microsoft announced this morning at its E3 press conference. For gamers in the UK and Europe, the upcoming console will cost £429.99 and 499 Euros respectively.
Currently available for pre-order is a “Day One Edition,” though the specifics on it are scarce at the moment. Speculation of a $499-$599 price point were right on track, though the lack of multiple SKUs is a bit of a (welcome) surprise. Hopefully we’ll see some store bundles package in a game or Xbox LIVE subscription as well.
Back in 2005 Microsoft priced the 20GB Xbox 360 at $399, while the “core edition” was $100 cheaper at $299. With new technology and the inclusion of the Kinect this time around, it’s not surprising to see the Xbox One’s higher price point. Gamers will surely vote with their wallets later this year in November.
