During E3 ’07, Sony announced that the upcoming release of Unreal Tournament 3 in November will be exclusive for the PC and PlayStation 3. But for Xbox 360 fans, you’ll have to wait till early 2008 to get your hands on Epic Games’ frantic multiplayer shooter.
In regards of the exclusive deal, Epic’s Mark Rein was keen on saying there were no shady deals with Sony about the exclusive release of UT3 for the PS3. When speaking with GameSpot, Rein stated, "There’s nothing sinister about it. It’s just the PS3 and PC version of the games are compatible, because Sony has an open-source platform."
While it’s unclear regarding Rein’s comment about the compatibility of both versions of UT3 (PS3 and PC), for example, if just the development process were similar or if there could be future cross-platform gameplay, we do know that any mods built for the PC version will be able to be imported into the PS3 version.
