DayZ, the wildly popular ARMA 2 mod, will now become its own game according to a recent Tumblr post.
Creator Dean “Rocket” Hall revealed that Bohemia Interactive, makers of the ARMA franchise, will help with development duties. Hall will still be tied to the game, serving as the project lead.
Gamers playing the mod currently will still be able to do so while the official release goes through the development and update stages. Hall also mentioned how DayZ will follow the Minecraft model with “fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”
This news comes just a day after it was revealed that DayZ has reached one million unique users. That number is sure to go up for the open world survival horror game now that it’s more than just a mod.
Further information can be found on DayZ‘s new official website.
