Ubisoft and Arkane Studios released a demo for their upcoming action-RPG Dark Messiah of Might and Magic yesterday. Weighing in at a hefty 1.4 gig download, players can experience two single player levels, a tutorial and the first level of the game.
After the tutorial, the other provided level gives you 6 skill points to distribute to a few skills, not all the skills are unlocked for the demo’s sake. Skills include archery (put points to zoom in, increase your accuracy and increase your reload), weaponry (put points to use a charge attack, use shields and disarm enemies) and magic (put points to use a guided fireball and freeze the ground). The game utilizes Valve’s Source engine, thus HDR lighting, a full physics engine and very nice visuals are all provided.
In the demo, you fight a series of zombies, goblins and orcs. During combat, you can utilize your surroundings to your advantage. This includes kicking foes off of cliffs, impaling orcs into walled spikes or splashing oil onto an unsuspecting goblin and then lighting him on fire. The demo also features the game’s full body awareness system, for example, if you look down, you’ll see your arms, body and legs.
You can find the demo here. The game is set to be released in October.
