"Cyrus" of The Warriors Sues Rockstar

The Warriors, a movie made in 1979, and which has become a cult film classic as well as a video game produced by Take Two, is under fire by the actor who played “Cyrus,” the gang leader who gave the rousing speech to other gangs to join together and take over New York City. His famous words, “Can You Dig It!” have been immortalized in the minds of film fans.

Roger Hill, who was Cyrus in the film, has leveled a $250,000 lawsuit against Take Two and Rockstar for not fulfilling their obligation to pay him for the rights to use his voice and image in The Warriors video game, according to New York DA. He is also asking the court to restrain Take Two from using his image in the video game. Hill claims that Rockstar and Take Two pulled in $37 million from the game.Hill was offered a deal for using his likeness in the game, but the game company terminated talks after his refusal to accept the original offer. Hill now works at a Manhattan business college library. Take Two denied the charges and said, "[Take Two] has a valid third-party license for the rights to use Roger Hill’s likeness and the character of Cyrus in the Warriors video game and related marketing materials."
