The premiere of a brand new Gears of War advertisement stirred up quite a ruckus today in the Xbox Live community when members were informed that they could only download the new trailer if they had a Gold account. This marks the second time since the the release of the PSU Beta that the service has given content priority to paying members.
In an effort to clear up some of the confusion, Xbox Live Director of Programming, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, later noted on his blog that there is, in fact, no intention of removing free content for users. "Silver members WILL get access to this… in about a week," he said, "This is going to happen more and more…so you may want to think about upgrading if you want all the latest and greatest trailers, demos etc."
Microsoft made no official comment on the change in policy.
