Condemned movie gets a director

condemnedmovieWarner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that director Tarsem Singh (The Cell) has signed on to direct The Unforgettable, the upcoming movie based on Monolith Productions’ 2005 FPS Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Originally named Species X, The Unforgettable is being produced by Basil Iwanyk (Firewall, Basic), David Goyer (Blade series) and former Monolith CEO Jason Hall.

Hall said, "We wanted to come up with something specifically designed to use multiple mediums to tell stories that had some continuity and connective thread. One medium usually handicaps the other, because if you hadn’t thought of the movie when you did the game, you’d limit creative expression or completely depart from the game, and risk losing your core audience."

WBIE hopes to release the movie around the same time the game’s sequel, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, is released, which is early next year. The Unforgettable "centers on a cop who in the course of a murder investigation, has reason to question who he is as a man, until he realizes he’s not a man. A tug-of-war emerges among a faction of good and evil aliens."

Iwanyk said, "It’s got touches of Terminator and Highlander and it is hatched from the same egg as the videogame. It’s an experiment that, if successful, could be a tentpole title and a great thing for the studio."
