Developer/publisher Atlus, creators of the popular Persona series, released Catherine in Japan last week. Unfortunately it looks like the intriguingly odd puzzle/adventure game won’t be seeing a North American release any time soon.
The company has confirmed that there are no current plans to bring the game to the continent. Atlus’ US PR commented on the matter, stating, "Catherine is a Japan-only game and there are no plans for a NA release at this time. Sorry about that!"
The Japanese market is certainly enjoying Catherine. In its first week the game topped Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in the all-formats chart.
Those of you wanting to see some gameplay footage can check out Giant Bomb‘s recent quick look of the Japanese import. The language barrier will make it hard to know what’s going on, but that may be the case even if you understand Japanese.
Sometimes a game looks so crazy that you just have to play it. Hopefully Atlus will soon realize that there may in fact be a market for terrifying dream monsters and weird sheep men in North America.
