Capcom looking to expand, more games for us!

streetfighterWhat does a gaming company do when they sell a bunch of successful games? Well, they expand, of course! That is what Capcom is planning to do according to comments from CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto.

Part of their plans for expansion include, "business partnerships with, or acquisition of companies that create content popular around the world…" and "increase its share in the overseas market…in the home video game and mobile content markets…"

Last year, Capcom released two successful games for the Xbox 360: Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Dead Rising. Fans eagerly gobbled up the two titles with sales of over 1 million copies each in 2006.

Althought Capcom is a Japanese video game company, oddly enough, 90% of the sales for the two games occured outside of Japan. To capitalize on their new-found success, Capcom will be releasing more games catered to the non-Japanese audience, which equals more of their intense games for us!

While Capcom is certainly interested in acquiring more companies, they are not looking to merge or be acquired themselves. Tsujimoto said, "There have been many mergers and acquisitions in the industry in recent years…but Capcom is currently not envisioning any merges with game companies or toy makers."

So for you fans of independent companies (non-EA fans), that’s good news about Capcom!
