Blizzard's new MMO coming after Diablo 3

Blizzard has millions of people playing World of Warcraft and StarCraft II while Diablo fans eagerly await the third entry in that series. But the company isn’t slowing down as they set their sights on another big project.

The developer is currently working on a full-fledged MMO, codenamed "Titan." In a recent interview company COO Paul Sams shed some light on the game, explaining its ambition and the company’s plans to focus on it after Diablo III‘s release.

"As it relates to that other [MMO], we think that it’s going to be very impactful in our industry and, we hope, very impactful to the world," he said. "We think that that will be, after Diablo III, the next big thing from us. The thing that we hope will happen is that it will not stop World of Warcraft but we believe will eclipse it."

Sams then went on to explain how well the game is coming along.

"We’re very confident in that product. It’s an awesome one," he continued. "We’re playing it already. It is a total ball to play. We think that the reach of that product is greater than anything that we’ve done before."

Lastly, Sams added that he hopes their new MMO will reach levels of longevity that even World of Warcraft hasn’t achieved, saying, "…hopefully in 10, 15 and 20 years, that [new MMO] will still be growing strong and will have set a new mark in the industry for that type of product."

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
