Digital Illusions (DICE) has taken some frag damage from players following the release of Battlefield 2142. Early reports coming from gamers complained of stats and awards bugs, issues with the PunkBuster anti-cheat technology and EA server problems. In the official forum of DICE, the developer stated that it was aware of the issues, taking immediate action to address the problems “and will continue to update everyone on our status until these issues are resolved”.
DICE said that the awards and stats bugs were being worked on, but that the fixes would not restore errors prior to the fix. "Last weekend we made updates that resolved the issues causing some awards or stats to not be properly awarded to players. Unfortunately any stats or awards not received before this update can not be replaced."
In regards to the PunkBuster program that occasionally dropped players from servers, "We are currently working with PunkBuster to resolve player issues and allow for a smoother experience and to eliminate server kick issues that are still affecting some players. We have added additional enhancements to our server infrastructure to eliminate the majority of the disconnection problems. We will be putting forth every effort through the weekend to completely eliminate this issue for all our players.”
The relationship between the Battlefield community and the game developers have always been on a love/hate relationship in which gamers love the game, but dread and hate the bugs which seem to always dictate the release of patches. In spite of the negative aspects that Battlefield fans have to endure, the game remains popular with the Battlefield faithful.
