Time to ring the funeral bells and prepare a gravestone because NCsoft announced that their MMORPG, Auto Assault, will be shutting down at midnight on August 31, 2007.
All current active subscribers won’t be billed again and if any players have purchased a multi-month subscription or used a game card that goes past July 31st, NCsoft will "reconcile these accounts appropriately".
Follow-up questions reveal that there may be last day activities held and that there are currently no plans for another service provider to pick up the pieces.
It’s unfortunate to see online games meet their doom. While Auto Assault did garner positive reviews at launch, their subscriber base has been on the decline.
David Swofford, director of public relations, said, "After a while it gets to the point where the return we’re getting on what we’re putting into it is just not matching up. We just didn’t have that many people in the service."
