Ubisoft has made Assassin’s Creed one of the premiere videogame franchises currently, and now the company seems to be setting its sites on the movie marketplace.
Recent reports indicate that Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to bring Assassin’s Creed to the big screen. Apparently Ubisoft has been pursuing other studios regarding a possible film adaptation, with Sony coming out on top in the bidding war.
Nothing has been set in stone at this point, and a Ubisoft spokeswoman failed to go into any detail regarding the news.
“As we’ve stated before, Ubisoft is actively looking for film opportunities for our top brands,” she said. “There is high interest from top Hollywood studios to collaborate on these brands.”
If this deal does in fact end up happening, it won’t be the only big-name film adaptation under Sony Picture’s belt. An Uncharted movie is also being worked on under new director Neil Burger.
Films based on video games don’t have the best reputation, but hopefully Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted can help break the trend.
