Aquaman, The King of the Seven Seas, has been riding a wave of popularity recently thanks to the character’s reboot by DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. That fame, combined with his major presence in the DC Universe as a member of the Justice League, has earned him a spot in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced his official inclusion with a brand new trailer.
The half Atlantean, half human who also goes by the name of Arthur Curry, seems to be a very conflicted character in the game’s narrative. Initially trying to keep his people under the sea and out of the conflict amongst the heroes and villains above the surface, Aquaman eventually decides to ally himself with Superman and Wonder Woman. However, when the truce proves to be one-sided against his favor, it appears that the Marine Marvel switches sides by joining Batman and bringing the armies of Atlantis into the fight on the side of the resistance.
Taking a look at Aquaman’s style in the trailer, it appears that he will be one of the gadget-based fighters through the use of his signature trident and water attacks. It also seems like his super move will involve filling the arena with water, impaling his enemy with the trident, and hoisting them into the air as a giant shark takes a massive bite out of the foe.
One interesting thing of note found in the trailer is that when the truce is presented to Aquaman in his Atlantean throne room, which will be an arena in the game, it’s done so by The Flash and Captain Marvel. While Flash has been a Day 1 revealed character, Marvel isn’t among the current roster. Whether he’ll be announced prior to launch, merely act as part of the story, or be a future DLC fighter is yet to be seen.
In addition to the trailer, WBIE provided two new screenshots of Aquaman in Injustice. The first can be seen above, while the second is found below with the trailer.
Injustice: Gods Among Us will release on April 16 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
