Apple trademark hints at future gaming device

iGame? It appears that Apple isn’t content with all of their recent successes in the computer, mp3 player, and cell phone departments. A recent trademark application hints that the company may be getting ready to venture into the videogame arena – namely the handheld market.

Trademark-sleuths Trademork have discovered a very interesting snippet in Apple’s newest plans for growth. From their report:

On February 5, 2008, Apple Inc. filed to protect their Apple trademark in relation to "hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games".

Veeeerry interesting. Considering the fact that anything Apple touches turns to freakin’ PLATINUM nowadays, this filing has the potential to be huge news. Could we be nearing an all-new race in the handheld market, or will Apple’s efforts fall victim to the same fate as so many handheld consoles of the past?

Heck, maybe they won’t come out with anything at all. Your guess is as good as mine.
