Roughly two weeks ago Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, George Harrison, declared his intent to leave by the end of the year, a big loss for Nintendo.
To make the wound even deeper, Beth Llewelyn, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications has also put in her official notice to leave.
An excerpt from Llewelyn’s letter to the media reads: "After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, I will be leaving the company at the end of this week… It was a very tough decsion, but ultimately my family and I decided it wasn’t the right move for us. My last day at Nintendo is Friday, September 28."
With Harrison and Llewlyn gone, that leaves the leadership depleted, with only Perrin Kaplan, Vice President of Corporate Affairs remaining, for now. Kaplan, earlier this year, has made her intentions known that she will be leaving as well.
The decisions by the big three to say adios to Mario may have been set off when Nintendo announced a "move it or lose it" policy in which the Nintendo marketing group was told to move to new offices in San Francisco or New York…or face losing their jobs.
If you’ve ever watched Band of Brothers, you’ll know changing out all the lieutenants is going to lead to lots of casualties… well at least they’re not dealing with bombs and bullets here. Where’s Winters when you need him?
