Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson has issued a statement postulating that both Microsoft and Nintendo will release new home consoles by the year 2010. He also believes that the life cycles of both the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP will come to an end around that same time. He wrote:
"We believe that peak industry sales will occur in 2010, given that Microsoft will likely introduce its next console that year and Nintendo will likely launch before then. Further, 2010 is also likely to coincide with the end of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP cycles."
Wilson has also claimed that Nintendo had finished work on a complete redesign of the DS as early as November of last year. According to Wilson, Nintendo will keep this new DS waiting in the wings until current DS Lite sales taper off.
