Last month, Jack Tretton, president of SCEA, explained that the overstock of PS3s on store shelves was actually a good thing because it indicated that Sony was meeting demand with regards to production. The position taken by much of the gaming community was that the PS3 just wasn’t selling. Now, with the PS3 about to launch in Europe this Friday, March 23, Sony Computer Entertainment’s European boss is making comments that he thinks that there will an ample supply of PS3s for anyone who wants to buy one.
David Reeves told Reuters, "We don’t want secret shoppers to go in there and say, ‘Ah, it’s not out of stock, therefore it’s not selling.’ Indeed, what we’re trying to say is we want to make it available to the normal shopper who goes in there and says, ‘Do you have PlayStation 3?’, and they will say, ‘Yes.’ And the same for the software."
Everyone has their own take on what to make of the supply of PS3s, but on Friday we’ll hopefully be able to get a solid impression of European consumers’ interest in the system.
