Word has come down from the selection committee that they will "remain faithful to their hardcore community" by offering entry to all who came out on the first day to sign up.
Entry to this beta has been just about as sought after as was entry to the Halo 3 beta. I think they are realizing what a powerful marketing tool it can be to get your potential consumers hooked on your game’s multiplayer.
The Halo 3 beta started out similar to this as well. It started off exclusive and then slowly but surely it became more and more accessible. I wager the same will happen with COD4. If, for one reason or another, you weren’t able to register on day 1 keep an eye out for more opportunities in the near future.
If you’ve made a good game, then the best marketing you can have is to let people know just how good it is first hand. Infinity Ward is one of the most bankable developers in the industry, and they are going to want to get this test in the hands of as many people as possible.
The only question now is whether or not Activision will force them to bundle the beta in with one of their lesser known mediocre titles to get it some publicity.
