During the Reuters Media Summit, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick made some comments regarding the price for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Like others have echoed in the past, Kotick said that the prices must fall to $199 in the next two years or else they’ll lose the consumer market.
"In the next 24 months they all will need to be at that $199 price point, and you can imagine Nintendo will be down to the $129 price point over the next few years."
$199 is pretty cheap but I wouldn’t expect a price drop like that till for several years, especially now that the consoles have hit their stride lately. Kotick gave praise to the PlayStation 3 but denounced its $400 price tag.
Regarding the Wii, Kotick said, "The Wii at its price point is now setting a standard and an expectation, and people say, well, the Wii is less complex technically. I don’t think that really matters as much to the consumer."
Activision has had quite the success lately, for example being named the #1 game publisher in October.
