A Look at Sparta: War of Empires

Sparta: War of Empires

It seems that there are so many free-to-play MMO games vying to get players’ attention. Sparta: War of Empires is one that may be worthy of your time if you are a fan of strategy war games with a historical setting.

Sparta: War of Empires
is a set in 5th century BCE Greece. In the game you are part of the battle against Xerxes and the Persian Empire. Your task is to build up your city and its armies so that it can provide resources for the coming battles. Armies are necessary both to keep your city protected and can do battle when needed.

If you’ve played war games like Sparta: War of Empires before then you know how these games work. You must build up your city with farms, lumber yards, and other resource-building units before focusing on building up your army.

During this growth you will also have to take part in some diplomatic work with the players around you, which is where the MMO component of the game comes in. It is important to find players that agree with your perspective and strategy, and can be trusted to work with you.

One of the first noticeable aspects of Sparta: War of Empires is it’s attention to visual fidelity: it looks good for a game of this type. The interface is somewhat busy, but the tutorial does a good job at teaching you what is important. It also takes the time to recommend that you make the game full screen to take in how good the game looks.

Being a “free-to-play” game, Sparta: War of Empires monetizes via microtransactions, though they thankfully don’t get in the way of gameplay. For the most part these in-game transactions can be used to boost the time it takes to build units and train-up your army.

If the game catches your interest–and it’s free, so why not?–be sure to visit the Sparta game info page where you can take a look at it for yourself. For strategy and war-game fans, it’s worth checking out.
