GamerNode recently reported that the movie adaptation of the hugely popular and critically acclaimed Xbox 360 game Gears of War may have been on a downward spiral toward the dreaded can. Now, however, there appears to be a solution to the budget problems the project had been facing. In an interview with Gamepro, screenwriter Stuart Beattie said that the film could go the green screen route, a la the Greek classic(?), 300.
"It's interesting. Everyone's talking about 300. They use it as an example of where things are headed. That film was shot completely on green screen, which is amazing when you actually see the film. It's probably how we're going to do Gears of War."
"There's no way to build that world any other way, really. That's a huge world. It's a planet and it's a bubble and it's a building. It's an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely."
That sounds very promising, considering the pure AWESOME that was the movie 300. Plus, it'd lighten the budget burden that seemed to be such a hinderance to the film's progress. If things indeed go as Beattie plans, you can bet I'll be lining up to see this movie.

As long as the cast can act properly in front of it. *cough* Star Wars Episode 1-3 *cough*
Imho, 300 was good, but not spectacular. It had something missing and i did not care about the characters. I have a bad feeling about this "green screen" version of Gears.
