If you’ve ever downloaded large game files, the wait can be almost unbearable. But BitRaider, a new technology company, says they’ve developed a scheme where you can download just 10% of your game and start playing it immediately, while it finishes downloading.
Royal O’Brien, Founder and CEO of BitRaider says he knows what it feels like to wait for a big file to finish loading.
"As gamers ourselves we understand that just starting to play quickly isn’t the only challenge. We want the experience to be the same as if it were already pre-installed without any hit in performance. For gamers, they just want to play, they really do not want to be involved with how the download is being performed. Building a technology that is virtually invisible, yet delivers a quality play experience, is what changes the entire download distribution game."
How is it done? The technology uses the multithreading capabilities of mulitcore CPUs and utilizes the computer’s dormant processing power.
"I believe this technology will create a sea change in the digital distribution of games and massively affect the economics of gaming entertainment. I see a very wide variety of exciting new ventures, and I joined this one in a capacity beyond my normal advisory board role because I believe BitRaider will truly change the course of gaming," said Jay Moore, BitRaider’s Director of Business Development and Founder of The Strategery Group.
The BitRaider program automatically runs in the background and takes care of the steps required, figuring out streaming needs, and installs the package. For those who prefer digital distribution of their games, BitRaider technology will help in getting into the game much quicker.
But just how many will buy the program to save time? Recent reports have indicated that BitRaider will cost $29.99.
