Back in early 2008, a neat little game called Faith and a .45 was announced. Info about it quickly began flooding the internets, and for good reason. With a wicked-cool name, a unique setting, and a heavy focus on characters and storytelling, it looked like this game truly had the makings of something special.
However, very little was known about it back in 2008, and not much has changed since then. It still doesn’t have a publisher, and because of that reason, development of Faith and a .45 has been officially paused.
Many of you may have never heard of this game, and those of you that did, you most likely have forgotten about it since it hasn’t been on anyone’s radar since early in ’08. For the unfortunately uniformed, what I can tell you about Faith is that it’s a third person shooter that follows characters Luke and Ruby during The Great Depression with a Bonnie and Clyde outlaw vibe to it. The press release from over a year ago bills it as "an intense and atmospheric shooter, with a heavy focus on characters, cooperative gameplay, road movie storytelling, and cinematic aesthetics." Sounds great to me if it can deliver, or ever get a publisher and actually get released.
The fact of the matter is that this game has "cancelled" written all over it, which is a crying shame since it’s a great, unique idea. During a time when the blockbuster sequel is king, not many original games are ever greenlit, much less become successful. And not to beat a dead horse, but some of you may have noticed our economy is not doing well. While the gaming industry as a whole is still doing well, it doesn’t change the fact that publishers are much less likely than before to publish an original game that doesn’t have a good chance of making money. Without a publisher (and it’s been without one for over a year), Faith faces a serious threat of being cancelled altogether.
