Microsoft to keep Halo titles coming at frequent pace

More titles are coming, and more frequently.

In a recent interview with IGN, Microsoft Game Studios’ corporate vice president Phil Spencer revealed that the company is planning to release future Halo titles on a frequency more similar to that of Halo Wars, ODST, and Reach. Spencer was quick to add however that this does not necessarily mean annual installments.

"There’s no explicit strategy that says we’re to ship a Halo game every year," stated Spencer. "I will say I think one Halo game every three years — which was kind of our old cadence – is probably not frequent enough."

He then added that the franchise is nearly ten-years-old and Microsoft and 343 don’t want their customers waiting as they go "dark for two years" in-between games anymore. Spencer then promoted 343’s potential in making the next wave of Halo titles and reiterated that this does not mean a new Halo game every year.

"343 Industries is thinking a lot about how to take this franchise and turn it into something that people feel like they have an ongoing relationship with and they can entertain themselves more often," he said. "But it’s not, hey every November 6 or whatever we have to ship a game and build a production plan around that. We want to do things that make sense as a first party."
