The boss of Disney Interactive Media Group Steve Wadsworth, who oversaw all internet operations including gaming, announced late yesterday that he will resign from his role and leave the company.
"While there is never a good time to leave a great role at a great company, for many reasons now is the right time for me to move on," stated Wadsworth. "I am extremely proud of the huge progress we’ve made at Disney Interactive Media Group, and am confident that the business is well-positioned for continued significant growth."
Statistics show that the group wasn’t necessarily making progress under Wadsworth from a money-making standpoint, as it posted a $65 million loss this past fiscal quarter. That performance still didn’t keep Disney chief executive Robert A. Iger from making a positive statement regarding his departure.
"During his long tenure, Steve has transformed our Disney digital business in a rapidly changing landscape. He leaves with only our best wishes for continued success in whatever challenge he takes on next," said Iger.
The job is now in the process of being replaced, with Wadsworth holding the position until it is filled. Reports given to the New York Times state that John Pleasants, chief executive of Disney-owned social games developer Playdom, is the favorite to be awarded the position.
