Ron Gilbert joins Double Fine Productions

Ron Gilbert, famed creator of the Monkey Island series, has now joined Double Fine Productions. This means he will be reunited with Tim Schafer. The two worked together on 90s adventure games while at LucasArts, including The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

Earlier this year Gilbert left Hothead Games shortly after production on DeathSpank had ended. He is now focused on his newest project for Double Fine, which will not be one of the four smaller games the developer is currently working on.

"It’s an idea that I’ve been batting around for many, many years," Gilbert said. "I’ve been talking to Tim over the last couple of months about it and it sort of percolated back up. It’s very different than DeathSpank, it’s a bit of a departure from that. It’s going in a very interesting direction. Fans of those old adventure games will like it."

If it’s anywhere near the quality of those aforementioned adventure classics then this is certainly something to be excited about.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
