In a direct video presentation oddly reminiscent of other video game-related direct video presentations, Sony announced a price cut for the PlayStation Vita in Japan.
Both models of the system, the Wi-Fi and the 3G, with now cost ¥19,980, or about $214. Previously the 3G Vita cost ¥29,980, and the Wi-Fi cost ¥24,980.
Two items of note here aside from the price drop: one, both models now cost the same, signaling that 3G capabilites in handhelds aren’t as valued as Sony thought they would be. Secondly, this price drop likely means that North America will learn of their own price drop at Sony’s “See The Future” presentation this Wednesday at 6PM, along with the alleged PlayStation 4 reveal.
The Vita price drop is nice and long overdue, but when is Sony going to announce a price drop for those memory cards? That should be next.
