Gamers show solidarity with Sandy Hook school shooting victims

The Online Shooter Cease Fire, organized by GamerFitNation as a show of support for those affected by the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, has gathered over 1500 “attendees” on Facebook. That number grows with every refresh of the page.

The event urges gamers everywhere to “cease fire” this Friday, December 21, by putting down their controllers and abstaining from online shooting games, and sharing their participation via social networks using the hashtag #osceasefire.

“We are simply making a statement that we as Gamers are not going to sit back and ignore the lives that were lost,” GamerFitNation CEO Antwand Pearman writes. “Instead we will embrace the families with our love and support.”

The organizers very clearly state that they are placing no blame on video games, but are instead choosing to make a positive impact as a community that is often used as a scapegoat in times of violent tragedy.

GamerNode fully supports this day of recognition, and members of the team here will indeed be ceasing fire from 12am Friday to 12am Saturday. You can join, too, via the link below.
