Bungie’s first post-Halo game, Destiny, has released its first official artwork after story details of the title leaked onto the internet.
The concept art for Destiny, an in-development title to be published by Activision, was uploaded to Bungie.net after plot details were leaked to IGN by a reader. Bungie later responded to the leak quite lightheartedly:
“Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright. We weren’t quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we’ve really been up to. Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.”
The leak came as an advertising document that detailed the premise of the game. It states that the story begins “seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age,” but a “massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector.”
Furthermore, the document added that “strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and — eventually — overcoming it.”
The document also gave an idea of the direction of Destiny, describing it as “fun and accessible to all” and that Bungie wants to “create a universe as deep and tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.” Furthermore, it said “Destiny is designed for your inner seven year old” and that Bungie “want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.”
The only gameplay details were described as “social at its core” and will offer players “a world to explore with friends, both old and new”: further suggesting the MMO possibilities of Destiny.
The concept art can be viewed above, as it is the main image of the story. Let us know what you think of the image and premise in the comments section below!
