Video game music fans, rejoice! Your tastes have finally been recognized by the rest of the musical world.
Composer Christopher Tin’s "Baba Yetu" aka The Opening Song To Civilization IV and V, was recently nominated for "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists" for this year’s Grammy Awards, slated for February 12th-13th. This marks the first time a video game song has ever been nominated for a Grammy.
Think about that for a second. Think of all the fantastic music we’ve been privy to as gamers, and "Baba Yetu" (which is a FANTASTIC song and rightly deserves it, by the way) is the FIRST ONE EVER to be recognized by the biggest music award show of the year. The fact that soundtracks like God of War, Uncharted, and Mass Effect were all passed up blows my mind, but thanks to Tin and "Baba Yetu," that may no longer be the case.
This is a tremendous honor for Tin, who received a second Grammy nomination as well: "Best Crossover Classical Album" for his latest work Calling All Dawns. We here at GamerNode support Tin 100%, and we will be cheering as loud as every other gamer should be if the award is given to him.
